HISTORY
Since 1919, Pilgrim Baptist Church has stood as a beacon of faith, hope, and community in Hamilton, Ohio. What began with a handful of faithful men and women has grown into a thriving church family with a rich past and an even brighter future.
Through the years, Pilgrim has been blessed with dynamic leaders, and today Pastor Devin E. West carries the torch with a fresh vision and passionate commitment to sharing the love of Jesus. At Pilgrim, history comes alive and hearts are transformed—because the love of Christ fuels everything we do.
Pilgrim Baptist Church, founded January 9, 1919, in Hamilton, Ohio, has been shaped by key pastoral leaders including Rev. W.T. Jackson (1919–1941), who oversaw major growth and the construction of a new sanctuary; Rev. Sloan Stanley Hodges (1950–1965), under whom the church became financially secure and expanded ministries; Rev. Norman L. Townsel, Sr. (1965–2011), whose 46-year tenure brought historic milestones such as women in leadership, senior housing, and extensive renovations; and Pastor Devin E. West (2018–present), who has guided the congregation into its second century.
Over the decades, Pilgrim has evolved from a small gathering of believers into a vibrant faith community, expanding its facilities, retiring debts, and launching impactful outreach programs, culminating in its 100th anniversary celebration in 2019.
